Is this for me? It's been a long time since I did any study -can I handle it? Why should I look into these courses? Will I go deeper into my faith?

Why should I learn more?
We are all of us called to be in a relationship with the three persons of the Trinity, Father Son and Holy Spirit. Relationships must grow over time. We are called to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ and His One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, and thence to grow in our love and understanding of its riches, so as to pass that love and understanding on. This is the Diocese of Shrewsbury’s share in the Great Commission to teach the nations, and we all bear a responsibility for it.

What is a catechist?
A catechist is one who proclaims the truths of the faith. Parents are the first catechists of their children, and priests the first catechists of their parish. We are all called to be catechists at different moments in life – ie. whenever someone asks us for a systematic answer about what we believe.

I’m not a catechist, is it for me?
These resources are for all parishioners in the Diocese of Shrewsbury in all ministries! We are all called to know God better, so as to love God better, so as to serve God better in all our various ways. These resources offer ongoing formation for Catholics of all ages and walks of life!

I’d like to do more to help in the parish, is this for me?
Yes, they’re for every parishioner at every parish through the Diocese of Shrewsbury. Everyone who is initiated into the sacraments is called to grow in their understanding and love of Christ, and these workshops are of indispensable value in helping you discern what you might do next for the one who loves you first!

What does it cost?
Thanks to the generosity of the Catechetical institute of Franciscan University of Steubenville and the Diocese of Shrewsbury, access to the full range of many hundreds of workshops costs a token £10 per student per year! You simply won’t get access to such extensive, flexible, and world-class resources at this price anywhere else!

Do I need my parish priest’s permission to join up?
You can access these materials straight away, provided that you are a registered parishioner at a parish in the Diocese of Shrewsbury. It is always advisable to let your parish priest know that you are accessing these materials, so that he can help you unlock your full potential for ministry in the days ahead. It may be that you can work together to expand their use among other parishioners.

I am not an academic person, is it for me?
These resources are for all of us in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, no matter our educational background. You are not expected to answer lengthy academic questions, but to reflect briefly and in your own words on the materials presented in short video workshops accessible to all.

I have done plenty of theological and catechetical study already, how can it be for me?
These resources are for all of us in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, no matter our educational background.  The Catechetical Institute prides itself on mentoring mentors in the transmission of the faith as well as in  its content. These workshops are sure guides for how to communicate what we know to be true.

I have already done the CCRS, is this for me?
Yes! The CCRS is a certificate for those involved in catholic education. Our Diocesan certificates are for everyone involved in catechesis in the parishes of the Diocese of Shrewsbury. The two programmes serve different but complementary needs.

I’m a Priest/Religious, is this for me?

Yes! We’d love to have Priests and Religious of the Diocese of Shrewsbury on board! The resources of many hundreds of workshops and courses of Diocesan Certificates are deigned to build a community of all Catholics, Lay/Clerical/Religious, in the Diocese of Shrewsbury. We’d love to hear from  all potential students as well as all potential mentors. Let’s please try to build a Guild of Catechists worthy of the One who sends us!

I’m a recent convert to the faith, is this for me?
Absolutely! All converts in the Diocese of Shrewsbury are warmly welcomed to Our Mission! Converts are often the most motivated to help out. Many converts have a strong heart to evangelise, and catechesis is a form of evangelisation for people already in the pews. Your enthusiasm is awesome, join us!

I’m very busy, is this for me?
Yes! These materials can be used at your own pace. You can either jump in and out of individual, or you can enter the Diocese of Shrewsbury’s Certificate programmes and be mentored through specific curricula for specific ministries, but either way, there is no start or end date, so you can commit as little or as much time as you are able in any one time period.

Will I be expected to become a catechist in the parish?
Not necessarily! These courses are designed to equip existing catechists, as also to help others discern the call to catechesis, but they are also invaluable for the personal formation of all practising Catholics in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, no matter your vocation or ministry. Only you and your parish priest can assent to your practising as a catechist in the parish.
